Breathe. Nurture. Inspire. These three simple words represent larger actions that propel my work as an artist in bringing stories to life, whether behind the scenes or on-stage. As an actor, director, or choreographer, it is my duty to breathe life into my work through exploration and collaboration, allowing the story to grow and flourish organically and truthfully as a whole. Throughout the creative process, I continually nurture the work by providing space for new ideas to form and develop and allowing room for mistakes and growth to occur. As a result, I am able to present a story that is honest and centered in truth, inspiring others to look at and approach the world with a new perspective.
Directing children’s theatre has become the core focus of my journey as an artist and educator. My approach to working with young artists centers on engaging students in activities that spark passion and creativity across the theatre arts spectrum and into the world beyond. Instructing young people provides an opportunity for myself to learn as an actor through the eyes of naturally playful and curious human-beings. This gives me new tools to use when working in developing new characters and roles in a production. By guiding students through the process of developing and staging a production, I discover new ways of working as a member of a team, interacting with the world, and stepping into work with a new sense of respect and vitality. Through children’s theatre, I am able to experience the breath of creativity, nurture young artists to strive to meet their potential, and inspire and be inspired to give honestly and energetically, both on and off the stage. Educating and directing young artists via children’s theatre workshops and productions provides the opportunity to learn alongside these young people and enhance both their approach and understanding of the theatre arts as well as my own.
